Intellect Leads.
My grandmother a literary scholar in her own right remarked not long back, how the world was revolutionized by technology and its relevant impacts. Sadly this has shadowed the ‘classical’ reflections of the bygone years, she felt. How true, my mind accepts. Some of the instances in the ‘classical era’ show great relevance and apt significance, even today.
George Bernard Shaw, a renowned writer and critic was once approached by Mrs. Patrick Campbell, who was an edwardian stage actress. She came with a clever proposal of getting married to the author. She also justified her intensions by saying their off springs, would turn out to be excellent poets with exceptional looks. For the father possessed intellectual beauty and the mother prided on her impeccable features.
He saw beauty within, she saw beauty without. Shaw did not fall in the traps of this damsel. For he knew external beauty was not everything.
A clever and witty Shaw calmly replied to Mrs. Patrick, what if the child took over the father’s appearance and the mother’s intelligence?! The kid might have all the superior appearance, but inferior intelligence ! And he disposed the mighty proposal. Shaw was a spring of knowledge but lacked external beauty. No one has it all in Life.
Human Intellect always rules and leads; it rarely misguides.
